| Michael Willets killed on 25/05/1971 aged 27 | Awarded the George Cross and honoured in Harvey Andrews song "The Soldier". A terrorist entered the reception hall of the Springfield Road Police Station in Belfast. He carried a suitcase from which a smoking fuse protruded, dumped it quickly on the floor and fled outside. Inside the room were a man and a woman, two children and several police officers. He held the door open while all passed safely through and then stood in the doorway, shielding those taking cover. | David Wilson killed on 14/05/1994 aged 27 | David, from Greenock Scotland, was a LCpl in the Royal Artillery. He died instantly after receiving severe head injuries at Keady. A booby-trap placed behind a fence next to the Permanent VCP at Davis Street exploded causing the armoured glass in the sangar to implode and hit him. Another soldier talking to him in the open sangar doorway was injured but survived. |
